I found a post on Reddit
here
that was written 7 years ago by
SAM_SMITU, which means around
2018, and although it's an archived post, I feel that my answer adds
value, and it gives an interesting perspective to those who want to know
what it takes to make it on their own in marketing.

First of all, and as an introduction, I got to my position by initiating
and working in my own ventures. I fulfill different roles within my
work. Next, I will answer the question posed by the OP based on my
current situation: What does my job look like?

Content creation: This significantly moves the needle in
attracting paying customers and developing a worthy brand. Just
remember that content is not only text, it's also their prediction
of visuals such as images and videos

Writing: I often create blog posts, which is a valuable skill to
have because it allows you to express yourself and share your
knowledge frequently. Besides a command of the English language, you
will find that the right words comprise a lot of doing effective
    marketing work.

Graphic Design: Before graduating, I could choose a
specialization, and the one that did it for me was graphic design.
If you think about it -- and my experience proves it -- you can
focus on your marketing job whilst having a supporting graphic
designer in a medium-sized or big company. The truth is, you can
work much faster in Concepts and directing by performing graphic
design duties. In my case, it has been essential to create valuable
marketing elements such as the images that a company posts and
articles on third-party websites. It has also been crucial to
creating the marketing collateral for my web design business.

Basic SEO duties: When you're writing a post such as this one,
you often need to perform previous keyword research and check
elements such as friendly URLs, etc.

Ad creation: Although currently I'm not doing it often, it's a
great way to promote your products and services. You can do it
yourself incrementally; you don't need to be an expert to create a
positive return on investment, which is good to know.

Being great at the phone: although the internet is a fantastic
place for introverts of all kinds, it's also critical to know that
if you want to sell high-ticket services, you usually need to be
making and receiving phone calls. In my particular case, I often do
telemarketing, which is basically a branch of direct marketing.

Self-management: I once spent more than 2 hours looking for a
document I had to attach to an email. This lesson got me to be
better organized and to actively search for ways to improve in this
area. The surprise is that you will find that many times, organizing
yourself means you can scale your work by directing a team through
the use of the same tools.

Gotten.

Elements to consider:

Where possible, try to keep your work within the marketing, advertising,
and design realm, because it would be easy to get too much into the
delivery of products and services or into the business operations area.

Working online doesn't necessarily mean doing online work exclusively
because your background may be useful for a large series of tasks,
including the design of marketing collateral

In my experience, you can usually find high-paying marketing jobs in
mid-sized to big companies, as well as applying marketing as an
entrepreneur, and even to create extra streams of income.

You don't need to be a world-class expert in most areas to begin with.
Usually, specialists develop themselves within a job, and that is great,
but you also want to know that breadth of action makes you connect the
dots.

Recap

Although my work varies day by day and I try to be agile in the way I
organize myself, most of my work can be catalog into content creation,
writing, graphic design, basic SEO, ad creation, selling through the
phone, as well as managing my work with digital and modern tools and
workflows.

Making Good Money With Little Traffic – I Revisited this 2018 Reddit Post in 2025 - Eagle Blogging

Back in 2018, based on personal experience, you could find a few golden

this thread.
Since I found it was sound, I thought I would like to add my own words
to it.

Who knows what key elements will change in the following years? I guess
we're about to find out. Now the post was a list of tips. I added my
take to this list, and I present them to you next:

The Tips

Tip 1: Understanding what items you can sell through your blog or
website is critical. Many individuals just dive in to sell the first
thing that occurs to them. The truth is, there are a few rules of thumb
when it comes to raw profits. This rule is selling the products you make
or getting a huge cut by being the affiliate of digital products, such
as education or software of any kind. At least at the beginning of your
entrepreneurial pursuits.

Tip 2: Amazon is such a powerhouse when it comes to branding, and
the offers you promote may convert very well. That being said, it is
common knowledge that, especially for beginners, you should advertise
offers that let you profit without driving staggering amounts of
traffic. At least at first, you don't want to be diversified, as the
cost of opportunity is obvious. You could be earning so much more with
less effort.

Tip 3: When it comes to offers, you'd be surprised to find that many
people would find what you're offering suitable for their needs. You
don't need to stick to the usual suspects, but you can search affiliate
offers for a myriad of products you use, would like to use, or that your
readers can benefit from.

Tip 4: Choosing a niche is of the utmost importance. Again, experts
can say: "Oh, there weren't many offers I could display on this site,
I'll leave it as just another stream of income." But for the beginner,
who is gaining experience as well as trying to profit from their first
site, they could be sharpening the proverbial axe before embarking on an
entrepreneurial journey. Also, planning is part of doing great
marketing.

Tip 5: This tip is still key in 2025. You're going to put all that
effort into basically a business. If it were a physical business, you'd
spend more just on gas to get from point A to point B than what you pay
in the form of hosting. The possibilities of profit in the online world
are higher now, thanks to quality information from reputable sources who
have done much of the initial work. Also, you can now get something
visually appealing online, which wasn't such an easily available option
before. Also, you just need a clean blog design to get started, nothing
fancy.

Click Here - Get The Best Marketing Tips You\'ve Ever
Gotten.

Tip 6: Keyword research is paramount to cover what your niche or
industry needs. No matter how useful the content you publish, if it's
not found, you'll be wasting your time, business-wise. Keyword research
doesn't have to be a hassle; in 2025, you can find tools that suit your
budget and requirements now more than ever before.

Tip 7: When it comes to sources of traffic, your YouTube channel is
a must. Although a few things have changed since the original Reddit
thread I'm adding to, blogging as such is not enough. People are
sometimes engaging in video and sometimes reading. That's just the way
it is. But hang on, creating video content is fun as well as it is
rewarding. (Hint: You don't have to show your face if you don't want to)

Tip 8: Your writing capabilities are like a muscle: Train it often,
and it will grow. The same goes for writing.

Tip 9: The OP (original poster) probably wanted to stress that
writing every single day is essential.

Tip 10: Not much has changed when it comes to getting an SSL
certificate (only that any reputable site can't function without one, as
of today), and there are a few options substituting Google Analytics,
especially for those wrapping their heads around web analytics.

Tip 11: Blogging can be a fantastic source of extra income, or it
can be your main breadwinner, but it's not a get-rich-quick scheme.
You'll want to persevere. Your efforts will provide you with the means
to do so. As an example of this, let's say you learned how to install
blogs, write SEO-friendly blog posts, edit videos, and so on. Then you
can sell these services while your blog provides you with the income you
desire.

Final words

As you can see, I added my take to most tips, and then some elements are
even more critical than before (SSLs which are secure certificates,
YouTube video creation, and knowing how to persist) Many other
elements don't fade into the background; they're still as elemental as
before, it's just that you'll find best practices and many discussions
are mostly settled.

design. The brochure I'll be making in the video falls into the category
of a sales sheet. These sheets are the perfect blend of marketing and
design. Interesting how design is usually related to marketing and vice

The funny thing is that the process for creating something useful
doesn't have to rob you of your sleep or be cumbersome.\
Let me tell you a little secret: while I edited the video, I didn't add

persona: This is a profile of the kind of customer you'd like to have as
a marketer. Its importance is paramount to the success of many marketing
campaigns. I'll mention an example: There was this content marketing
team that pinpointed who their ideal persona was. When they created
content published on the blog, thinking about this type of person,
numbers rose. When they relaxed their fixation on the buyer persona,
everything went downhill, so they corrected their path.

You've Heard About Niches, Right?

In the wild, when people talk about marketing, they tend to say the
word: niches often. This phenomenon may happen because choosing niches
is a way of saying: You can't sell to everybody, there are people more
interested in your products and services than others.

Then, persona marketing is related to niches because you're not catering
to everybody else, but to a specific part of the population. The persona
symbolizes a group of people with similar characteristics you've
previously uncovered through data. As you can see, the process to
uncover the symbolized person is analytical as well as creative.

The Power of Marketing -- Look-Alike Audiences

Many individuals see the process of marketing planning as an academic
pursuit far removed from reality. This is far from the truth. Let me
show an example. Let's say you've worked hard to get your first clients.
What should you do next? Common sense and an entrepreneurial knack can
get you to the next level, or not.

But you can bet on marketing principles to inspire you. You'll find the
principle of persona marketing in action in certain software features,
especially those on ads. Let's say you have a group of people who are
your most profitable clients, you can now cater to similar individuals,
taking these existing customers as an example. This may increase your
profits remarkably while avoiding the headaches of hit-and-miss
strategies.

But the power of the concept goes beyond the digital realm. Let's say
you have found a considerably profitable client profile, then you can
grow your business seamlessly by taking them as inspiration for your
ideal persona. And of course, in Marketing and Advertising, you should
think about your customer often anyway.

Being Thorough -- Getting the Data

Most people, even marketers, pressed for time, tend to just write what
comes to mind when it comes to creating these personas. While being of
the utmost importance, the challenge gets relegated to a pressing list
of to-dos.

Click Here - Get The Best Marketing Tips You\'ve Ever
Gotten.

Qualitative research: Qualitative research is truly powerful when it
comes to insights and shouldn't be relegated. Much of the business
meetings are sprinkled with primary data coming from experiences from
stakeholders, sometimes aided by adequate data, which leads us to the
next category.

Quantitative research: Research has always been critical to the body of
knowledge of marketing, which leads to today, where you're in for a
treat for tools that let you see at a glance if the profile of a person
is suitable for your marketing goals. You can perform primary research
physically, or you can mine data from the web to support the knowledge
that will lead you to success when catering to those clients where you
can exchange the most value.

Updating The Persona Data -- Insights and Further Research

When it comes to keeping the profile of the person updated, you should
know that as time passes, the same persona may change, but a human may
change. Or maybe you'll want to keep the same persona, considering
individuals who come to fit such a profile. As an example for this, if
you're marketing a clothing brand, you may want to grow in age with your
clients, or you'll want to cater to those coming of age to whom you'll
want to appeal. In any case, your proposal adapts to the profile of this
client.

Persona Marketing -- Keeping it in mind always

It's interesting that if you're in a department other than marketing or
sales, you may even forget you're dealing with customers. As an example
of this, if you're in operations to deliver a product, your day may be
filled with stats about the route, features of the software you're
using, employee rotation, and so on. If you're in finance, you may be
checking spreadsheets often, reading reports, and thinking about
expenses most of your day.

So, it's up to you in marketing and sales to remember the customer,
arguably the raison d'être of the whole enterprise. And when you
remember the client, you may remember a particular name, or you may take
a mind shortcut and symbolize these ideal customers through a persona,
to better connect as a human to your work while improving your
execution.

Spreadsheets Marketing – A Peek Into Excel - Eagle Blogging

You may remember the latest product launches in marketing tools. especially true now, in the new era of AI, which promises to make your
job and mine utterly obsolete.

But not so fast; most of these solutions are gimmicky, so let me
explain. There are core tools marketers use to perform their daily jobs.
Although no two jobs are alike, just as doctors learn standards to
operate, marketers and professionals also use a range of tools that we
use, even if we later choose to disregard them, for whatever reason.

One of these tool arsenals is the familiar spreadsheet. Today, many
people choose between Microsoft Office and Google Docs, although there
are other options.

Spreadsheets Marketing -- A bit about the tooling

I'm not claiming that one product is better than another. You can find a
spreadsheet solution that is perfect for your needs and workflows. That
being said, I believe that the main options have interchangeable
features that you may choose to use according to your situation. I'll
mention just three tools, but please feel free to apply what you learn
here to a similar one.

Microsoft Excel:

This software tool is the industry standard in many organizations of all
sizes. Marketers are familiar with it because they have used it to
approve professional coursework. You may find that some or all of its
features suit your present and future needs. Countless businesses use
it.

Google Sheets:

Google's spreadsheet took the world by storm by providing the features
most users used most of the time. Added to this, there was an advantage
of being an Internet native, so to speak, when they added collaboration
capacities to the online solution. Now, you could, for free, work with
colleagues, partners, and providers in a robust application that today
keeps innovating, especially through its collaboration features.

Airtable:

Recently, I was researching my options to set up a CRM. It was a
thorough research. I found Airtable, which is a way of setting up custom
apps based on spreadsheets. The concept is not new, but the company took
it to the next level, setting up this type of software as a platform to
build. The good news is that it doesn't take an excruciatingly long time
to learn, and the concept of tabular data is familiar to most of its
users.

The options mentioned above are a few of the top contenders. You will
find other solutions built on top of these and innovative proposals.
There's no shortage of options to explore, and a great incentive is
managing all of your data under one roof at a fraction of the cost of
disparate providers.

Excel, the SAAS killer

Most individuals and teams need to do a job, and do it fast. That's the
main reason people buy online software: It often lets you do something
specific quickly. You're done. As time goes by, you'll realize you may
be using quite a few of these subscriptions, and the costs add up.

At this point, you may be motivated to cut costs or streamline your
work. The answer is commonly simple: Excel.\
You may find that many of the tools you use can be replicated on a
spreadsheet, particularly with Microsoft's offer..

My experiences: A URL launcher:

I wanted to organize my most-used bookmarks. When I had too many tabs
open, the toll on my RAM was too high, and my computer was crashing, so
a solution was of the essence. One of my options was to build a personal
website listing these web addresses. I did go through the process, and
it was really useful.

Click Here - Get The Best Marketing Tips You\'ve Ever
Gotten.

Is there a need for custom tooling?

As days went by, I was wrangling and reorganizing this HTML, and it was
eating into my planning time. The solution? A simple spreadsheet that
contains these URLs

Now, you may be thinking: Wasn't the answer obvious? My answer is that
in retrospect, it is, but in practice, this is an example of what
marketers and business people go through. Spreadsheets are generally a
Swiss Army knife for many of the needs of knowledge workers.

Now, we get a little technical

If you are already working with big data, skip this section because the
datasets aren't that big in small and even medium-sized businesses. You
don't need to be a Data scientist wrangling Python and R programming
languages to get the most out of your data.

Today, Excel may be a welcome tool for gaining data insights or the main
tool for obtaining this primary information.

Excel as part of a workflow.

You may be tempted to try to fit everything in your workflow into Excel.
Although this is an extreme you don't have to consider opposites; you
may include spreadsheets as part of your processes, as I explore the
following subsections

Export to Excel

When software speaks to other software, so to speak, they have ways to
do so, in particular through how they arrange data in certain file
types. With humans, it's no different: You may find that exporting to an
XLSX file (Excel filetype) is common in Customer Relationship Management
(CRM) systems and many types of applications.

Excel as a data source

You may have heard the buzz about Big Data. It refers to data sources
that a single computer or server cannot process, so they must invent new
ways to handle it.

Around this buzzword, you'll find data scientists who do magic with
enormous datasets. The truth is that most of the time, and in the large
majority of cases, you'll deal with small data (or what was considered
normal previously), and modern spreadsheet software is more than capable
of handling most of what you throw at it.

Lingua franca for data

For techies, it's common to see forms asking you to upload
Comma-Separated Values (CSV) files. Since these files often contain
tabular data, they are usually prepared in Excel.

Essential updates when technologies are mature

I'd like to finish this article by claiming that learning Spreadsheet
Marketing Excel is an investment that keeps on giving. For ages, new
technologies have substituted certain workflows and needs where Excel
previously shone, and that's Okay. As a mature tool, you'll find that
Excel takes some time to incorporate the most important elements of
these innovations, with the added benefit of integrating with existing
features. But the wait is worth it; you'll use a strong tool that may
fulfill a large part of your data management needs.

Job Search and its Marketing Lessons - Eagle Blogging

I remember reading an introductory book on Communications that explained

that most people believe they are great at communicating without being
professionals. This happens because every human being must do it, right?

The truth is that most individuals are underqualified for many scenarios
where communication is paramount. Something similar happens with
marketing. Everybody in business sells themselves and their products and
services, but not everybody is superb at marketing.

Although everything complex can be made simpler, marketing requires more
than common sense.

Most individuals are acquainted with the process of seeking a job. This
series of steps can teach us a lot about marketing, and I'll begin
relating each step to its professional counterpart.

The professional headshot > On brand visuals

I can't emphasize enough how important a professional headshot is. If a
person were to be on a dating site without a photo, the person would
also be non-existent.

Visuals are paramount in marketing. As an example, you can explain much
of the brand through its visuals.

If you're a restaurant, you can't operate without a menu. If you're
inviting a crowd to a concert, you can't do much without a poster, and
so on.

Finally, what about the website? In many fields and markets, a business
without a website is nonexistent, and many others directly depend upon
it to sell and succeed.

The Resume > Landing Pages

The resume is a document in which you write about your expertise. It
also includes ways to communicate with you. The resume is also suited to
the industry and type of job an applicant is searching for.

As you may already know, a landing page is a part of a website that is
directly targeted to a target audience, differentiating itself from the
website in general.

If we compare the resume with the landing page, then the resume is the
landing page, and the audience is the employer. You're giving them
exactly the information they want in the format they prefer.

Keep in mind that you usually have the full ability to create and modify
the appearance of your resume, and the same goes for landing pages.

LinkedIn Profile > Social Media Marketing

You may have seen big brands launching campaigns throughout most of the
social networks you belong to. You may be surprised to know that you may
now be doing what they tackle at scale.

Instead of selling a soda drink, you're selling yourself. A few of the
tools at your disposal are:\
-- The ability to publish content through the network

Launching Ads

Presenting a cohesive personal brand

By now, you may have figured out that what you do to get better
prospects and amplify your network is what big brands do, but at scale
to make themselves known and cut through the clutter (to reach their
target audience effectively)

Networking > Outreach and Lead Generation

Job applicants contact companies to set up interviews, while brands
contact them to obtain warm leads.

Click Here - Get The Best Marketing Tips You\'ve Ever
Gotten.

The result for an individual is being close to getting a dream job,
fulfilling goals in such a way. Their business counterpart or brand gets
closer to closing a sale, fulfilling their quotes.

The Job Interview > Closing the Sale

The last comparison was all about networking. After submitting many
applications, the job seeker may receive an interview, which can lead to
getting the job they want.

The sales process is similar, and closing sales is the last part of a
marketing funnel.

In this part of the process, you make a presentation, overcome
objections, and close the sale. The result is a win-win situation for
both parties.

Negotiating a Job Offer > Positioning and Value Proposition

Can you demonstrate a Return on Investment? Are you a good fit for the
company? By adding value, you will receive value in return.

Not every equivalent of the job search process is face-to-face. In
marketing, you can set up your plan and see it executed again and again
through your website, automations, or digital means. That being said,
metaphors are great thinking tools. Let's continue with the comparisons.

Personal projects and experience > Portfolio and Testimonials

You'll find many loose parts inside a marketing collateral or plan.
Testimonials are part of a broader social proof category. Most of the
time, they're indispensable in a sound digital marketing strategy.

It's the same as part of a resume: They contribute to a persuasive
whole. Experience sells because it shows what you can do, strongly
backing up your proposal.

Upskilling, Reeskilling > Continuous Improvement

When we work with or for someone else, we have a value tag. Increasing
this value means we help someone else achieve their goals, and in
return, we get value, usually in the form of money, to fulfill ours.

Part of this formula is what we know: Upskilling or improving what we
know, and re-skilling or learning something new gets us closer to an
ideal of ever being improving. You can say it's self-development in
practice.

The same happens in marketing, but perhaps as a process, as something
more planned and tangible: Ever-improving processes and better services
help us stay in touch with the times and provide value because we know
what we're doing.

Finally

As you can see, the experience of being prepared to search for a job may
lead us to understand marketing empathically. By relating concepts from
everyday life to their marketing counterparts, you will be closer to
achieve your goals in marketing, thereby adding value to your
customers.

Do it Yourself Marketing – The Why - Eagle Blogging

Marketing is not a black and white subject. science and art of fulfilling your customers' needs is a profit center.
This means that other activities are costing you money, taking from you,
but most of the time, they're necessary to deliver your stuff. Proof of
this is that marketing is part of a new age of delivering products and
services that comes after the industrial age. This "make" ethos is still
embedded in fields such as engineering, including computer engineering.

So far, so good, but even when these individuals see the light, so to
say, they realize they should be sharing their time between producing
and marketing at a 50:50 % ratio most of the time. This is, if they want
to be successful.

An insight

Now, if you've been following me, you may be asking what you need to do
next. First, let's expose the so-called marketing "activities." I tend
to say these are tasks, and of course, execution demands it. There is
also the point of view that marketing is a philosophy. If you think
about it, when you reason, you tend to use logic often. With marketing,
you'll find that the premises are built on solid ground, and you may
base your decisions on them. My point is that there are no on and off
switches for marketing; it's a fluid development.

Real To-Do's

A marketing project, function, or process may require certain
activities. You'll usually find a core set of activities such as market
research, planning (analysis, positioning, measurement), and external
but closely related tasks in the areas of content creation and design
(including web design). There are many more things according to the
brand, venture, project, or business, but these examples illuminate the
need to work with external providers, or, gulp, roll up our (digital)
sleeves ourselves and do some of the work.

Gotten.

Getting to the point

As you can see, marketing touches key areas of your activities, but
sometimes, it doesn't delve too deep into an area. As an example of
this, you can test how the color of a button is converted without
necessarily being a web designer. Another example is that you often need
to write copy for social media or another online property, and, as a
marketer, you get to do this proficiently, but do you consider yourself
a writer or still a marketer? As you can see with the examples written
in this paragraph, we're going to have a lot of fun exploring different
fields, but at the same time, we're going to have a purpose: Do great
marketing.

Final words

I'll give you a tip that I consider valuable: Even if an activity takes
a large chunk of your time, it may not be as valuable as a few simple
elements, such as updating your business or marketing plan or a small
change of strategic direction. You should always include them in your
activities (even if it takes a few minutes, you can and should batch
them) since you may forget them to your demise.

There's a world of possibilities ahead, and we'll explore them
thoroughly.

My Plans for 2025 - Eagle Blogging

Hello, dear reader.

We're almost reaching the end of the first quarter of 2025, and it's
been a handful.
What have I been doing, blog-wise?

You may be surprised to have a new feel regarding the blog. There is a
logical explanation. I have been working on a new logo, a new set of
colors for the branding material, and of course, the essence of the
blog. This essence was about expanding the subjects I blog about.

The Essence

I figured out I could add more value through eagleblogging.com without
deviating from its origins. As you may already know, blogging is a way
to communicate through the written word. Much of our communication ties
us to our sustenance, places where we have fun, and so on. In the
digital world, it leads us through links we may find valuable,
especially if we belong to the same tribe: Bloggers, marketers, writers,
and entrepreneurs.

So, by the last month of 2024, I figured out that many readers find
themselves in the position of marketers, especially when they want to
succeed by attracting, captivating, and retaining customers. In
marketing, you can learn a thing or two to succeed, from people who do
marketing for a living, called marketing Pros.

I began with the following activities:

The new logo process

As you read before, a change in visuals without a change in how the blog
operated would have much less power than if it was accompanied by
tangible improvements. That being said, the logo is the element most
associated with a brand, especially in a visual sense.

This was the original logo:

This is the new logo:

Click Here - Get The Best Marketing Tips You\'ve Ever
Gotten.

The Main Landing Page

When you landed on this site, you saw a list of blog posts, now the blog
posts are inside the blog section. There is a main landing page,
directly under the .com address.

Here you can recognize the blog's visuals, followed by a description
message, you can see the latest blog post, and finally, a recommendation
to acquire SiteGround web hosting, which is the Premium host I run this blog with.

New Material

In marketing and advertising, you'll often read the concept of "on
brand" which means sticking to conceptual and visual elements to
identify the brand in different contexts. Although it has similarities
with other blogs because it's a blog; it's also unique due to the
perspective of the one writing the words, and unique experiences in his
field.

This uniqueness and perceived uniqueness are evident visually in
marketing materials such as PDFs, presentations, video intros and
outros, and so on...\
As an example of this, I'm posting the cover of a lead magnet created
under this new plan, taking into account the blog's new color scheme:

The Future

My plan is to share valuable content based on what works, and my
experiences as a marketer, advertiser, and author. The result is an
easier and more rewarding workday for you. Stay tuned!
