Back in 2018, based on personal experience, you could find a few golden nuggets on Reddit. (Who said social media was a waste of time?) I found this thread. Since I found it was sound, I thought I would like to add my own words to it.

Who knows what key elements will change in the following years? I guess we’re about to find out. Now the post was a list of tips. I added my take to this list, and I present them to you next:

The Tips

Tip 1: Understanding what items you can sell through your blog or website is critical. Many individuals just dive in to sell the first thing that occurs to them. The truth is, there are a few rules of thumb when it comes to raw profits. This rule is selling the products you make or getting a huge cut by being the affiliate of digital products, such as education or software of any kind. At least at the beginning of your entrepreneurial pursuits.

Tip 2: Amazon is such a powerhouse when it comes to branding, and the offers you promote may convert very well. That being said, it is common knowledge that, especially for beginners, you should advertise offers that let you profit without driving staggering amounts of traffic. At least at first, you don’t want to be diversified, as the cost of opportunity is obvious. You could be earning so much more with less effort.

Tip 3: When it comes to offers, you’d be surprised to find that many people would find what you’re offering suitable for their needs. You don’t need to stick to the usual suspects, but you can search affiliate offers for a myriad of products you use, would like to use, or that your readers can benefit from.

Tip 4: Choosing a niche is of the utmost importance. Again, experts can say: “Oh, there weren’t many offers I could display on this site, I’ll leave it as just another stream of income.” But for the beginner, who is gaining experience as well as trying to profit from their first site, they could be sharpening the proverbial axe before embarking on an entrepreneurial journey. Also, planning is part of doing great marketing.

Tip 5: This tip is still key in 2025. You’re going to put all that effort into basically a business. If it were a physical business, you’d spend more just on gas to get from point A to point B than what you pay in the form of hosting. The possibilities of profit in the online world are higher now, thanks to quality information from reputable sources who have done much of the initial work. Also, you can now get something visually appealing online, which wasn’t such an easily available option before. Also, you just need a clean blog design to get started, nothing fancy.

Tip 6: Keyword research is paramount to cover what your niche or industry needs. No matter how useful the content you publish, if it’s not found, you’ll be wasting your time, business-wise. Keyword research doesn’t have to be a hassle; in 2025, you can find tools that suit your budget and requirements now more than ever before.

Tip 7: When it comes to sources of traffic, your YouTube channel is a must. Although a few things have changed since the original Reddit thread I’m adding to, blogging as such is not enough. People are sometimes engaging in video and sometimes reading. That’s just the way it is. But hang on, creating video content is fun as well as it is rewarding. (Hint: You don’t have to show your face if you don’t want to)

Tip 8: Your writing capabilities are like a muscle: Train it often, and it will grow. The same goes for writing.

Tip 9: The OP (original poster) probably wanted to stress that writing every single day is essential.

Tip 10: Not much has changed when it comes to getting an SSL certificate (only that any reputable site can’t function without one, as of today), and there are a few options substituting Google Analytics, especially for those wrapping their heads around web analytics.

Tip 11: Blogging can be a fantastic source of extra income, or it can be your main breadwinner, but it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. You’ll want to persevere. Your efforts will provide you with the means to do so. As an example of this, let’s say you learned how to install blogs, write SEO-friendly blog posts, edit videos, and so on. Then you can sell these services while your blog provides you with the income you desire.

Final words

As you can see, I added my take to most tips, and then some elements are even more critical than before (SSLs which are secure certificates, YouTube video creation, and knowing how to persist) Many other elements don’t fade into the background; they’re still as elemental as before, it’s just that you’ll find best practices and many discussions are mostly settled.
